One of the hardest lessons to learn is how to tell your story to a new employer.
What you have achieved or created is unique. How do you create interest when your background doesn’t fit a typical success profile?
First, consider what roles energize you and what you are driven to do. Do research to understand how your knowledge, skills, and abilities apply to those roles
Second, rework your brand (resume, online profile, and other assets) to show your trajectory toward your target roles. Let your passion shine throughout these materials.
Third, apply only for roles in companies that match your values and mission. You’ll be able to engage authentically and feel better about the opportunity.
Fourth, include the company and hiring manager in your story. Get them to tell you what success looks like and confirm how you could be a top performer.
Sounds like a lot of work? Anything worthwhile is!
Invest in yourself at this moment in time – you will reap the benefits for years.
